R. S. Prussia cracker bowl. It is hand-painted porcelain. The name of the pattern is "Poppies". The R. S. Prussia factory was established in 1861 by 2 brothers, Erdmann and Reinhold Schlegelmilch. Germany did not exist as a nation prior to World War I. Prussia was one of the several small sovereign states that united to form Germany after the war. The red-letter-green-wreath mark was used between 1870 and 1914, the start of World War I. Your cracker bowl was made sometime during that 44 year period. This piece measures 6 and three quarter inches across the base, 9 inches handle to handle and 3 and three quarters inches high.

This mark was registered to Martha Budich in Kronach, which is a picturesque medieval walled city in eastern Germany. Martha Budich is described in Robert E. Rontgen's Marks on German, Bohemian, and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present, as a porcelain decorating shop, date of establishment unknown, and date of closure in 1977. The particular font style of this mark was not used before the 1930's. The candleholders were produced "blank" in a Dresden factory, and decorated and retailed by Martha Budich. Each candle holder measures 10 and one half inches by 6 inches tall and 3 and one half inches wide.

Capo di Monte historical plaque. Capo di Monte porcelain was first made in Naples, Italy, in 1743 to 1759. The factory moved to Madrid, Spain, operating between 1771 and 1834. Since that time, the porcelain has been produced in Italy by the Doccia factory. The windmill in the background of this plaque is interesting. The scene may depict one of the many battles the Dutch fought against the English during the seventeenth century. The quarter-sawn oak frame with beaded liner dates from about 1890, so that may also be the approximate date of the plaque. Approximately 8 by 12 inches.

Set of twelve collector plates. Sarraguemines opera series plates, made circa 1920 to 1930. This French factory was best known for its hand-decorated faience pottery, but they also purchased blank porcelains, from nearby German factories, and transfer-printed the "blanks" in various series themes. Yours are Wagner operas; they did other operas and composers, actors and actresses, cheeses, peasant costumes, villages, and other themes. The crowned shield mark is the 20th century Sarreguemines mark, and the blue M identifies the Maier factory in Poschetzau, Germany. Single plates, in perfect condition. Each plate measures 8 inches across.
